Course Overview
Upgrade your career in the community services sector with this skillset. CHCSS00130 Individual Support – Disability Skillset will give you the skills you need to provide individualised support and care to people in home, community, or health care settings.
You will learn how to support independence and wellbeing, gain a range of technical skills, and develop a range of transferable skills from communication to teamwork. This priority skillset will give you the skills to facilitate the empowerment of people with disabilities, and support community participation and social inclusion. Akadia trainers are experienced industry experts who will be there every step of the way to ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the field.
Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work supporting people with a disability in their homes and communities, or for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) service providers. It will also prepare you to undertake further studies in the community services and health sectors.
Course Requirements
To achieve a CHCSS00130 Individual Support – Disability Skillset you must complete 4 core units and undertake 40 hours of vocational placement in an approved setting.

CHCDIS012 Support community participation and social inclusion
CHCDIS020 Work effectively in disability support
CHCCCS038 Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
Akadia Training does require that you complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN) assessment to determine your ability to successfully complete your training. If you believe you may experience difficulties with any aspect of LLN assessment, please talk to us and we will be able to help you.
This skill set has been endorsed by industry as suitable for individuals who hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in Community Services, Health or related field.
Course Delivery | Duration
The CHCSS00130 Individual Support – Disability Skillset is delivered within 4 months via a self-paced learning program developed to meet the individual students’ needs. Every student will have access to regular one-on-one contact with their dedicated trainer.
The time taken to complete your studies depends entirely upon how much time you can dedicate to your training.
Higher Level Skills Program
Funded by the Queensland Government, the Higher Level Skills program provides eligible individuals with access to a subsidised training place in selected certificate IV level or above qualifications, and priority skill sets.
The aim is to assist individuals to gain the higher level skills required to secure employment or career advancement in priority industries or to transition to university to continue their studies. Employers may also be able to access training to address workforce development needs.
Akadia Training is a Skills Assure Supplier to deliver training and assessment for the Certificate IV in Disability under the Higher Level Skills Program.
