Course Overview
Kick start your career in aged care with this entry-level qualification. CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) will give you the skills you need to provide individualised support and care to people in home, community, or health care settings.
You will learn how to support independence and wellbeing, gain a range of technical skills, and develop a range of transferable skills from communication to teamwork. This specialised course will give you the skills to facilitate the empowerment of older people, and provide support to those living with dementia. Akadia trainers are experienced industry experts who will be there every step of the way to ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the field.
Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work in aged care and/or home and community care. It will also give you the foundation to undertake further studies in the community services and health sectors.
Course Requirements
To achieve a CHC33021 – Certificate of Individual Support (Ageing) you must complete 15 units which are made up of 9 core units, 3 ageing specialisation units and 3 electives. You will also be required to complete 120 hours of vocational placement.

Placement
If you are not currently employed in the aged care industry, you will be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of workplace placement to allow you to participate in and demonstrate the skills required for successful completion of your training. You’ll be required to work shifts determined by your placement provider, and these can include early mornings or late nights, any day of the week, including public holidays. If you require assistance arranging suitable placement please contact Akadia and we will endeavour to help.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
Akadia Training does require that you complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN) assessment to determine your ability to successfully complete your training. If you believe you may experience difficulties with any aspect of LLN assessment, please talk to us and we will be able to help you.
Course Duration | Delivery
The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) is delivered within 6 – 15 months via a self-paced learning program developed to meet the individual students’ needs. Every student will have access to regular one-on-one contact with their dedicated trainer.
The time taken to complete your studies depends entirely upon how much time you can dedicate to your training.
Our trainers will make scheduled site visits to your workplace to assist you. These visits will be scheduled after negotiation with your workplace and yourself and will provide you with tuition, learning support, and conduct workplace observations. You will still be required to do some study and complete assessments in your own time.

Eligibility
Under Career Start, a student may access up to 2 subsidised training places through one of the following options:
a qualification in a certificate III under the general training pathway and an apprenticeship/traineeship, noting that if the apprenticeship/traineeship is done first, the student is no longer eligible to access a general training pathway qualification under Career Start
or
two apprenticeships/traineeships at either a certificate II or III level, including school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs).General Training Pathway

Funded by the Queensland Government, Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s covers the cost of your training when you choose a high priority apprenticeship or traineeship.
To be eligible, you must:
- be currently employed as a Queensland apprentice or trainee (under a training contract) in a high priority apprenticeship and traineeship qualification
- have commenced (or were already undertaking) your apprenticeship or traineeship between 1 January 2021 and 30 June 2027
- be aged under 25 at the time your contract commences
You’ll continue to receive funding until you complete your apprenticeship or traineeship, even if you’re over 25 or you complete after 30 June 2027.
