Course Overview
Take the next step in your career in aged care with this mid-level qualification. CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability will give you the skills you need to play a lead role in the provision of individualised support and care to people in home, community, or health care settings.
This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.
You will learn how to support independence and wellbeing, gain a range of technical skills, and develop a range of transferable skills from communication to teamwork. This specialised course will give you the skills to facilitate the empowerment of older people, and provide support to those living with dementia. Akadia trainers are experts in the field and will be with you every step of the way to ensure that you have the skills and knowledge you need to succeed.
Course Requirements
To achieve a CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability you must complete 10 units which are made up of 7 core units and 3 electives. You will also be required to complete 120 hours of vocational placement.

Entry Requirements
Completion of: CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
OR
Completion of: CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
OR
Completion of: CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability PLUS the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.
Akadia Training does also require that you complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN) assessment to determine your ability to successfully complete your training. The CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability is delivered within 6 – 12 months via a blended learning program through a combination of face-to-face classes and online learning. Every student will have access to regular one-on-one contact with their dedicated trainer.
Career Boost Program
Funded by the Queensland Government, the Career Boost program delivers training to help individuals develop the higher-level skills needed to secure employment, advance their careers, or progress to further education and training to undertake university or tertiary qualifications.
The aim is to take a person’s career to the next level, enabling them to grow and apply their skills to existing or new job roles and to support productivity growth and workplace innovation.
Akadia Training is a Skills Assure Supplier to deliver training and assessment for the CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability under the Career Boost Program.
To access a subsidised training place under Career Boost, a student must meet the following criteria:
- aged 15 years or older;
- not be a school student;
- permanently reside in Queensland;
- be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
- not already have a certificate IV or higher qualification (including tertiary qualifications) completed within the last 10 years* (qualifications started as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count). *Note: This eligibility requirement does not apply to individuals seeking to enrol in a skill set;
- not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count).
