Course Overview

Kick start your career in aged care with this entry-level qualification.  CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) will give you the skills you need to provide individualised support and care to people in home, community, or health care settings.

You will learn how to support independence and wellbeing, gain a range of technical skills, and develop a range of transferable skills from communication to teamwork. This specialised course will give you the skills to facilitate the empowerment of older people, and provide support to those living with dementia. Akadia trainers are experienced industry experts who will be there every step of the way to ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the field.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work in aged care and/or home and community care. It will also give you the foundation to undertake further studies in the community services and health sectors.

Course Requirements

To achieve a CHC33021 – Certificate of Individual Support you must complete 15 units which are made up of 9 core units and all 6 specialisation electives.  You will also be required to complete 120 hours of vocational placement.

Placement

If you are not currently employed in either aged care or disability industry, you will be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of workplace placement to allow you to participate in and demonstrate the skills required for successful completion of your training. You’ll be required to work shifts determined by your placement provider, and these can include early mornings or late nights, any day of the week, including public holidays. If you require assistance arranging suitable placement please contact Akadia and we will endeavour to help.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.  

Akadia Training does require that you complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills (LLN) assessment to determine your ability to successfully complete your training. If you believe you may experience difficulties with any aspect of LLN assessment, please talk to us and we will be able to help you. 

Course Duration | Delivery

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) is delivered within 6 – 15 months via a self-paced learning program developed to meet the individual students’ needs.  Every student will have access to regular one-on-one contact with their dedicated trainer.  

The time taken to complete your studies depends entirely upon how much time you can dedicate to your training. 

Our trainers will make scheduled site visits to your workplace to assist you. These visits will be scheduled after negotiation with your workplace and yourself and will provide you with tuition, learning support, and conduct workplace observations. You will still be required to do some study and complete assessments in your own time.

Certificate 3 Guarantee Program

Funded by the Queensland Government, the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program supports eligible individuals to complete their first post-school certificate III qualification.

The program also supports school students to access training and Queensland’s Year 12 graduates to transition to employment by providing free training in high priority qualifications.

Akadia Training is a Skills Assure Supplier to deliver training and assessment for the Certificate III in Individual Support under the Certificate 3 Guarantee Program.   

To be eligible to enrol into the Government Funded Certificate 3 Guarantee Program you must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Queensland aged 15 years or above, and
  • No longer at school (with the exception of VET in school students) and,
  • Not have completed or be enrolled in a Certificate III (or higher qualification), this does not include qualifications completed at school, and
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.
